The find of the month for August is Freeze-Dried Fruit! Any kind – mangoes, strawberries, bananas, pineapples, apples – they’re all just so good!
When we started introducing food to our son, we introduced these because they melt easily (less of a choking hazard). We’ve been sneaking them for ourselves ever since and stocking up for snacks. They’re crunchy, sweet, and perfect for traveling.
When we’re choosing our snacks, we usually think about flavor and taste, like sweet or salty. It can also be important to consider texture of your snacks and foods, as these play a role in satisfying cravings and help us stay on track with making healthy choices.
Eat them right from the bag or try them on on a rice cake. Here’s a snack idea:
Crunchy Peanut Butter Strawberry Rice Cake
1 Rice Cake (10g)
2T Crunchy Peanut Butter (32g)
Top with as many freeze-dried strawberries as you can fit (bananas are great too) ~4-7g
16g Fat/19g Carbs/8g Protein
We will grab the Simple Truth brand from Kroger when we’re out shopping, but we also order the Crispy Green variety pack when we want individually wrapped servings. Each bag is 10g which make them great for tossing in our bag and for tracking macros! Whichever brand you choose, check the label to make sure it’s just fruit – no added sugar.
